System Requirements

AutoFocus requires Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 5.0 (1.5.0) and higher. JRE version 6.0 Update 2 or later is recommended.

Download JRE for your platform:

Aduna AutoFocus is supported on the following operating systems:

  • Windows: 2000, 2003, XP, Vista
  • Mac OS 10.4 or higher
  • Linux

Minimal hardware configuration:

  • Pentium III, 1 GHz
  • 512 MB RAM

Download AutoFocus

You can download Aduna AutoFocus through Aduna's Download Center.

Windows users will want to choose the Windows installer. Users of other platforms can either choose ZIP or GZipped TAR download, these are identical except for the compression format.

When choosing a file in the Download Center, you are asked for some personal details. This information help us in understanding our user community and lets us improve our software accordingly. Note that providing these details is not mandatory, you can always skip this step by clicking on the direct download link.

Installation

Installation using Windows installer

Double-click on the downloaded .exe file to launch the installer. Accept the license and enter the locations to store the application files and shortcuts or accept the default settings. All files are extracted to the location of your choice and an AutoFocus shortcut is (optionally) placed on your desktop and in your Start menu.

Installation from the archive file

This installation method is available for all platforms.
Extract the contents of the downloaded archive file to a location of your choice. Make sure you have a correct Java version installed. This can be checked by invoking "java -version" on the command line and checking whether the version is 1.5.0 or higher. See above for information on how to get an up-to-date Java version.
Users of the UNIX-based systems (Linux and Mac OS X) may have to set executable file permissions for the startup script (bin/run.sh). To do that, invoke the command "chmod 755 bin/run.sh" from the application directory.

Starting AutoFocus

Installed using Windows installer

The application folder contains an executable called "AutoFocus.exe" that can be used to launch the application. The desktop and menu shortcuts also start this executable.

Installed from the archive file

Execute the startup script ("run.bat" for Windows or "run.sh" for Linux or Mac OS X) from the "bin" directory of your AutoFocus installation.

When you start AutoFocus for the first time, AutoFocus will immediately open the Add New Source wizard, suggesting you to define a source. When all sources were removed in the previous session, this wizard is also started. The wizard can be canceled and be started again later with the Add button in the Sources panel's tool bar or Sources menu or by pressing CTRL-N.

When starting AutoFocus after a version upgrade or downgrade, AutoFocus tells you of the detected upgrade or downgrade and recommends you to perform a Full Rescan. It is highly recommended to perform this rescan or else correct search results cannot be guaranteed.
